Excellent thread, I feel controlling your emotions is more than a useful tactic, its essential. It's taken me many years to realise that a big component of being a successful trader and making consistent gains over the long term is being able to remove emotion from trading and I'm still trying.
I use both for my stocks and shares investments. Basic fundamental analysis to ensure I'm in quality companies and technical analysis for timing my entries. However for Forex and Indices it's purely technical.
There is no such thing as a perfect strategy. There are many ways to successfully trade the markets and unfortunately there are no short cuts. You need to put the time in to learn what works for you and develop your own strategy and avoid those offering paid services to teach you, all you need...

I'm new to MT4 and currently use IG.COM, however the markets supported on my MT4 spread betting account are a fraction of what's available on my standard spread betting account. I'm looking for any established UK based brokers that support MT4 and provide a wide range of markets.
For me, If I'm holding for the longer term I don't need to monitor short term movements to closely and I'm happy with 5/6 holdings, for the short term its 2/3 holdings. However, there's no right or wrong answer, it's what fit's in with your lifestyle and whatever you're able to comfortably manage.
