is it really a life changer to buy a vps?

I mean, what does it really change between leaving your pc 24/7 over buying a vpn? is latency this much of a deal? we are talking about ms not seconds
 
anyone have experience on this? i’m also trying to weight on this between opening my computer 24/7 or subscribe a good vps
