What is the best configuration for a VPS

Does anyone know a minimum configuration for a VPS that can run 2 MT5 accounts and one MT4 account? Do I need a server with more memory or processor?

For running two MT5 (MetaTrader 5) accounts and one MT4 (MetaTrader 4) account simultaneously on a VPS (Virtual Private Server), the key factors to consider are CPU (processor), RAM (memory), disk space, and network stability. Both MT4 and MT5 are not particularly resource-intensive applications, but ensuring smooth operation requires a balanced approach to allocating resources. Here's a general guideline for a minimum configuration:

CPU:

  • Minimum: 2 CPU cores
  • Recommended: If the VPS provider allows for burstable CPU usage (where you can temporarily use more CPU resources than allocated when available), starting with 2 cores should suffice. However, for consistently high performance, especially during times of high market volatility or when running multiple EAs (Expert Advisors), consider opting for a VPS with 4 CPU cores.

RAM:

  • Minimum: 2GB RAM
  • Recommended: 4GB RAM or more. More RAM allows for better multitasking and can accommodate the additional load from any custom indicators or EAs you might be running on your MT4 and MT5 accounts.

Disk Space:

  • Minimum: 40GB of SSD storage
  • Recommended: 60GB of SSD storage or more. SSDs offer faster data access times compared to traditional HDDs, which can be beneficial for trading software.

Network Stability and Bandwidth:

  • A stable and fast internet connection is critical for trading. Look for a VPS provider that offers at least a 1Gbps network connection with unlimited bandwidth to ensure that your trading platforms remain connected to your broker without interruptions.

Additional Considerations:

  • Operating System: Most trading platforms, including MT4 and MT5, are designed to run on Windows. Ensure that your VPS uses a supported Windows version (e.g., Windows Server 2012, 2016, or 2019).
  • Security: Basic security measures, including a reliable firewall and regular updates, are essential to protect your trading environment.
  • Backup: Opt for a VPS provider that offers regular backups to safeguard your trading data and configurations.
Ultimately, the choice between more memory or processor power depends on your specific needs. If you plan to use resource-intensive EAs or conduct backtesting, more of both would be beneficial. However, for simply running two MT5 accounts and one MT4 account with light to moderate usage, the configurations mentioned above should serve as a good starting point. It's always a good idea to consult with your VPS provider about your specific requirements to get tailored advice.
