When did you have your trading epiphany that the real fight is keeping your balance and equity stable enough as to take every chance you get?

It took me a long time to realize the tradeoffs trading strategies presented on different dimensions (e.g the higher your risk to reward, the lower your accuracy), the higher the time frame , the less trades made because it takes longer for the picture to develop , and my favourite one, the larger the risk of any given trade the faster your balance and equity could go the other way ..., how do you see it?
